You don't have to have an account and you don't have to log in to use Movie Hurl. You can explore the database in a generic fashion immediately by going directly to the generic ratings page (also referenced in the main menu above). You can even submit new ratings without logging in!

However, we encourage visitors to get accounts for two reasons, one which benefits themselves and the other which benefits the rest of the Movie Hurl community:

• First, account-holders can view not only generic ratings, but also personalized predictions which are unique to the account-holder. Personalized predictions are specially tailored to a user's distinct record of past movie ratings in combination with their similarity to the ratings of other users. Personalized predictions are likely to be more accurate than generic ratings.
• Second, the personalized prediction system is dependent on input from numerous users, i.e., the more people who use it, the better it works for everyone. By having an account and submitting ratings, not only do you benefit by getting personalized ratings yourself, but other account holders also benefit by getting personalized predictions in response to your ratings.
